What a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Covers

A 200-hour training is the foundation course for teaching yoga. It is more than learning poses: you practice, study, observe and teach, and each part supports the others.

The curriculum falls into three areas:

AreaWhat you study
PracticeHatha Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga foundations, pranayama and meditation
UnderstandingYoga philosophy, anatomy and alignment
TeachingTeaching methodology and teaching practice

You do not need to be highly flexible or already teaching to begin. Sincerity, consistency and a willingness to learn matter more.

A Typical Day of Training

Each day moves between practice, study and teaching preparation. Classes run for around 90 minutes each, with breaks for meals and rest in between.

Part of the daySessions, in order
MorningPranayama and meditation, then Hatha or Vinyasa practice, then breakfast
Late morningYoga philosophy, then anatomy and alignment
MiddayLunch and rest
AfternoonTeaching methodology, then teaching practice and sequencing
EveningEvening practice, then dinner

The days are full, and that is by design. Repetition is how the practice settles into your body and the teaching language into your voice.

There are no full days off during the training, because each day builds on the one before. You do get rest and personal time every day, enough for a walk on Arambol Beach, a visit to a café, or quiet time alone. Some evenings include meditation, mantra, japa or satsang, depending on the teacher and the group.

The exact schedule may change to suit the group’s learning needs.

From Practicing Yoga to Teaching It

This is where a teacher training differs most from a retreat. Guiding other people asks for skills your own practice does not, and you build them one at a time:

  • Sequencing: creating classes that flow and make sense
  • Cueing: giving clear verbal instructions
  • Observing: watching your students instead of your own mat
  • Modifying: offering options for different bodies and levels
  • Alignment: understanding how each pose is set up
  • Presence: developing your own way of holding a room

You start small by teaching sections of classes. Then you receive feedback and teach again. Confidence comes from that loop of teaching, hearing what worked, and refining.

Who You Will Learn From

The training is led by Yogini Manisha, founder of Diksha Yoga School and an E-RYT 500 with more than 16 years of experience teaching, training and mentoring yoga practitioners and teachers. She leads the Hatha, Vinyasa and teaching methodology sessions.

She is supported by a team of teachers:

  • Master: Yoga philosophy
  • Anand: Vinyasa Flow
  • Rashmi: Hatha Yoga
  • Kanchan: Anatomy
  • Vinod: Teaching methodology and Hatha Yoga
  • Amit: Adjustment and alignment, and hand balance specialist

Together, our team has guided more than 23,000 students from around the world. With a maximum of 10 students per group, you get individual attention and feedback, not a place at the back of a crowded hall.

The 23 Days, Week by Week

The training moves from settling in, to going deeper, to teaching.

StageWhat happens
First weekYou settle into the residential routine, establish your practice, meet your fellow students and build the foundations of the course.
Middle of the trainingYour understanding of yoga deepens, and the focus shifts toward sequencing, communication, observation and teaching practice.
Final weekYou bring it all together through teaching practice, feedback and refinement, and prepare to complete the training.

Why Train in Goa?

Goa gives you distance from your normal routine. The relaxed coastal setting makes it easier to step away from work and home and give your full attention to yoga.

Our training is held at Lotus Sutra on Arambol Beach. You practice, study and rest there alongside an international yoga community.

Accommodation and Food

The residential program includes accommodation, according to the room option you select, and three sattvic vegetarian meals every day. With food and lodging taken care of, your energy goes into the training.

Is the Training Suitable for Beginners?

Yes. You do not need professional teaching experience or advanced flexibility. Students arrive with different levels of experience and learn progressively throughout the training.

The course is a good fit for:

  • Aspiring teachers
  • Dedicated practitioners
  • Beginners with a sincere interest in yoga
  • Existing teachers who want to strengthen their foundations

What you bring in attitude matters more than what you can do on the mat on day one.

What You Leave With

By the end of the 23 days, you can expect a stronger understanding in three areas:

  • Your own practice: yoga practice and movement, pranayama and meditation
  • The knowledge behind it: yoga philosophy, anatomy and alignment
  • The craft of teaching: sequencing, teaching methodology, communication and practical teaching

Most importantly, you deepen your own practice while building a foundation for teaching others.
