50 Hour Breathwork & Pranayama Teacher Training: What You’ll Learn in Goa, Sri Lanka and Thailand

Breath is the one practice you carry everywhere — on to the mat, into a meeting, into a sleepless night. Yet most of us were never taught how to use it. Our 50 Hour Breathwork & Pranayama Training changes that in seven focused days, taking you from your own breath to guiding a full session for others.

Diksha Yoga School is a Yoga Alliance Registered School with bases in Arambol (Goa), Galle (Sri Lanka) and Koh Samui (Thailand). Our breathwork teacher training is held at Green Serene Villa in Galle, Sri Lanka, a calm tropical retreat on the island’s south coast. The heart of the course is traditional pranayama, conscious breathwork, the science behind both, and the skills to teach them safely.

This guide covers exactly what you’ll learn, a day-by-day curriculum, upcoming dates and fees, and how this training connects with our programs in Goa and Thailand. Ready to book already? Check dates and Enquire on WhatsApp.

Who Our Breathwork Teacher Training Is For

You don’t need to be an advanced practitioner or a certified yoga teacher to join. What you need is a genuine curiosity about the breath and a willingness to practise every day. The course suits:

  • Yoga teachers who want to teach pranayama with more depth and confidence
  • Yoga practitioners ready to go beyond the breathing they do in class
  • Meditation practitioners exploring the link between breath and concentration
  • Wellness professionals — coaches, therapists, bodyworkers — adding breathwork to their toolkit
  • Future breathwork teachers looking for a structured first qualification
  • Sincere beginners who want to learn through a clear, guided program

Groups are kept small, between 4 and 10 participants, so every student gets personal feedback. The training is taught in English and is open to anyone aged 18 and over.

What You’ll Learn in Our Breathwork & Pranayama Teacher Training

The curriculum blends ancient yogic wisdom with modern breath science, so you understand not just how to do each practice but why and when to use it. It rests on six pillars.

1. Traditional Pranayama

You’ll practise the classical techniques of the yogic tradition, learning correct technique, the effect of each practice, and who it is (and isn’t) suitable for. This includes:

  • Breath awareness and full yogic breathing
  • Balancing practices such as alternate-nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhana)
  • Energising techniques such as Kapalabhati and Bhastrika
  • Calming and cooling practices such as Bhramari, Ujjayi and Sheetali
  • Breath retention (kumbhaka) and controlled breathing, introduced step by step

2. Modern Breathwork

Alongside the classics, you’ll explore contemporary conscious-breathing methods — active, balancing and calming patterns — and learn how they compare with pranayama. The aim is a rounded understanding, so you can choose the right tool for each student and situation.

3. Anatomy & the Science of Breath

Understanding the body makes you a safer, more confident teacher. You’ll study:

  • The respiratory system and the mechanics of breathing
  • The diaphragm and accessory breathing muscles
  • How breath influences the nervous system — stress, relaxation and focus
  • The effects of different breathing patterns on body and mind

4. Meditation & Inner Awareness

Breath is the doorway to meditation. Daily sessions connect breathing with concentration, relaxation and mindful awareness, so the practices become part of your inner life, not just a technique list.

5. Prana & Yogic Wisdom

Pranayama means more than breath control. You’ll explore the traditional yogic understanding of prana (life force), the nadis (energy channels) and how breath, energy and awareness are linked. This gives every technique its proper place within the wider yogic path.

6. Teaching Methodology

This is what turns a practitioner into a teacher. Through demonstrations, peer teaching and feedback, you’ll learn to:

  1. Structure a complete breathwork or pranayama session
  2. Sequence techniques with sensible progression
  3. Give clear verbal cues and demonstrations
  4. Observe students and adapt practices for different levels
  5. Hold a calm, supportive space and develop your own teaching presence

Safety Throughout

Every module comes back to safe practice: contraindications, when to modify or skip a technique, and how to respect each student’s individual needs. You’ll leave knowing how to guide powerful practices responsibly.
