What You’ll Learn in Our Breathwork Teacher Training in Goa
In yoga, pranayama is far more than a set of breathing exercises: it is a path into prana, awareness, concentration and meditation. Modern breathwork adds practical tools for relaxation, grounding and breath-led practice. This course brings both together across six areas of study.
1. Traditional Pranayama
Practise the classical breathing techniques of Hatha Yoga and understand their purpose, preparation and effects:
- Nadi Shodhana (alternate-nostril breathing), Surya Bhedana and Chandra Bhedana
- Kapalabhati and Bhastrika for energy and clarity
- Ujjayi, Bhramari, Sheetali and Sheetkari for calming and cooling
- Breath awareness and breath retention, and the role of pranayama in traditional yoga
2. Conscious Breathwork
Explore selected contemporary approaches, including diaphragmatic breathing, slow breathing, relaxation, grounding, energising practices and guided breathwork, and learn how to introduce them mindfully.
3. Breath Anatomy & Physiology
Understand the lungs, airways and diaphragm, the mechanics of breathing, the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide, common breathing patterns, and how breath connects with stress and the nervous system.
4. Prana & Yogic Wisdom
Go deeper into the yogic science of breath: prana and the Pancha Vayus (five vital winds), the nadis including Ida and Pingala, the chakras, and the role of bandhas and mudras in pranayama practice.
5. Breathwork & Meditation
Move from active practice into stillness through breath awareness meditation, pranayama meditation, mantra with breath, Dharana (concentration), guided meditation, Yoga Nidra and silent observation.
6. Teaching Breathwork
Build the skills to guide practices with clarity and confidence:
- Demonstration and clear verbal cueing
- Pacing, timing and sequencing
- Observing students and offering modifications
- Structuring a balanced breath-centred class
- Teaching practice with constructive feedback
Responsible practice runs through every module: preparation, gradual progression, clear instructions and respect for each student’s individual needs.

- Learn the principles: the traditional, anatomical and philosophical foundations behind each technique
- Observe and experience: develop sensitivity to breathing patterns and your own response to each practice

Meals, rest and free time are built into every day, so there’s space to swim, walk the beach or simply let the learning settle.
